Purim
Also known as the feast of Esther, is a time of frivolity
and "Self-Mockery". We remember the salvation of the Jews from the plot
of evil Haman. A party is held in which participants wear consumes relating
to the day of Queen Ester. Children are encouraged to participate in the
event by drowning out the name of wicked Haman and playing games. The Magillah
(scroll of the book of Esther) is read and, similar to Mardi Gras, the
spirit is high and even rowdy at times. We eat Hamantashen and fix pictures
of evil Haman to the bottom of our shoes. Haman is a type of Hasatan (the
devil) for us. We see Messianic believers as a type of queen Esther who
even risked her own life to save our Jewish people from the plot of the
wicked one.
